Area Map

The Residence of the Ohashis represents a typical merchant’s house in Kurashiki, well-preserving unique construction techniques such as Kurashiki mado, a sliding door with 5 lattices, Nuriya-tsukuri, stucco-coating walls for fire-proof, Namako-meji kawarabari, wall decorated by Kawara tiles, and Kurashiki Kosi, a lattice made of long and short wooden bars. The Residence of Ohashi Family is designated as an Important Cultural Property and exhibits valuable possessions such as storages, lunch boxes with floral design, a card game, Kosometsuke-sara, a dish with traditional design. The Ohashis made a big fortune by developing new agricultural fields and built the residence in 1796. This elaborately built residence shows us how wealthy the family was.
