Area Map
The Meganebashi bridge is an arch shaped double stone bridge that crosses the Nakajima River in Nagasaki. As it was built by a Chinese monk in the time when Christianity was banned, it took some Chinese style. People started to call it Meganebashi (“spectacles bridge”) from its image reflected on the river, then it's been loved by locals and tourists, became a representative bridge of Nagasaki. It was partially destroyed by flooding in 1982 and the local government almost decided to take it away, but the bridge survived by constructing a culvert to let the excessive water go through it. The bridge was restored on the following year, started to reflect its beautiful spectacles appearance on the river again. Just come and see the bridge while strolling around the city.
