If you visit Kyoto in fall, Eikando is a must-visit site. The temple welcomes you with staggeringly beautiful, red-colored maple trees. It'll leave you a life-long memory of the beautiful scenery.
The best season for maple trees viewing is November. The red leaves are floodlighted after sunset, giving you another beautiful view. Many treasures of the temple are also displayed during the season, so you can observe a number of valuable cultural properties by your own eyes.
There are many other high spots in the precinct such as a pagoda, towers, and ponds. The most recommended is the suikinkutsu. Suikinkutsu is a type of Japanese garden ornament and music device consists of an upside down buried pot with a hole at the top. Water drips through the hole at the top onto a small pool of water inside the pot, creating a pleasant splashing sound rings inside the pot like a bell. You can experience the beautiful sound by your own ears.
