22. Sushi Gion Matsudaya

Located a 7-minute walk from Gion-Shijo Station, Sushi Gion Matsudaya is an authentic sushi restaurant that brings out the full flavor of seafood. They only serve wild-caught seafood, including tuna caught in the waters off Japan. The menu consists solely of an "Omakase Course" made up of the best ingredients of the day. All of the sushi is carefully prepared, including exquisite dishes such as "Tuna Marinated Overnight" and "Boiled Abalone" that is simmered for around 5 hours. You can enjoy nigiri sushi and a la carte dishes that use a variety of techniques to bring out the full flavor of the seafood. Seating is limited to a clean cypress counter. The restaurant is comfortable, so even if it's your first time eating sushi at a counter, you can enjoy it without feeling nervous.
